birmabright alloy sheet

Overview

Corrosion resistant alloy developed by Birmingham Aluminium Castings Co. 1938 Birmabright manufactured by Birmetals Ltd as extrusions and sheet (1938) Birmabright is a trade name of the former Birmetals Co. (Birmabright works in Clapgate Lane, Quinton, Birmingham, UK) for various types of lightweight sheet metal in an alloy of aluminium and magnesium.

Birmabright is merely a trade name of the old Birmetals Co. (located in Birmingham) for a British standard specification of sheet (memory suggests it is actually NS4). All the major aluminium rolling mills - Alcan, Pechiney, British Aluminium, High Duty Alloys, Alcoa etc. sold the same sheet either under their trade-name or under the

May 07, 2012· Aside form anything else, reusing the old bits of Birmabright salvaged form knackered bodywork would save me a fortune over buying alloy sheet. Many thanks. tigler , May 6, 2012

Offer sheet, wire, pipe alloy Birmabright: or rental aluminum similar brands, the price is determined by the technological features of production without the inclusion of additional costs. On the company’s website shows information about latest product arrivals.

Jun 18, 2014· Thus the temper of the alloy is just as important as its composition and sheet material for Land Rovers was in the "half hard" condition - today that would be called H14 or H24. Thus the full, modern description of the Birmabright BB2 alloy would be AA5251-H14.

What Is Birmabright?

ANSWER - Birmabright is a proprietary aluminum alloy that is a mixture of aluminum, magnesium and manganese. Brimabright resists oxidation better than most aluminum alloys and is more resistant to dents than most aluminum alloys. Series Land Rover body panels were made of the Birmabright alloy from the first Series I Land Rovers in 1948 to 1980

Heat treated for enhanced hardness and strength, A514 alloy steel is suitable for structural applications and supporting heavy loads. Stress-Resistant 5160 Alloy Steel. 5160 alloy steel handles repeated cycles of stress without breaking just like spring steel. It’s often used to make flat springs.

Jan 29, 2008· I 'found' some 3mm ali sheet, that used to be a construction hoarding sign, in a skip. It was 4 8'x4' sheets with sticky back plastic on one side. The plastic was easy to remove, with a little heat on the back side of the sheet it pealed away easily. I used direct sunlight on some sheets and then a hot air gun when the sun retired for the night.

Aug 22, 2005· I can tell you mag/alu alloys are easily tig welded and gas welded. For a thin guage sheet like a panel just use pure argon.(if it were anything realy serious you use an argon/helium mix) Im not sure on the magnesium content of birmabright, if it is high (above say 5% Mag.) you should use a filler wire with the same makeup as the base metal.

Feb 26, 2018· I have some repairs to do on some Birmabright panels and I am wondering if any of my ideas are workable to produce a decent finish? I have three types of repair to do - 1, fill a 50mm hole from a wing mounted aerial. 2, Repair a 3 inch long split. 3, repair some corrosion where the panel is bolted to the crossmember.

Seriously we know the bulk of wartime Birmabright production went for building Aircraft. We know Rover built Aircraft air-frame components, (wings) which would have been covered with sheet aluminium alloy, at the two shadow factories it ran. We know Rover chose Birmabright for the Land Rover.

Mg–3Al–1Zn (AZ31, wt%) alloy is the most common wrought Mg alloy because of its moderate strengths, weldability, and corrosion resistance .However, the rolled AZ31 alloy sheets usually show poor room-temperature (RT) formability , , , hindering the wide applications in automobiles. The limited formability at RT arises from a strong basal texture with basal poles parallel to the normal

An aluminum alloy is a composition consisting mainly of aluminum to which other elements have been added. The alloy is made by mixing together the elements when aluminum is molten (liquid), which cools to form a homogeneous solid solution. The other elements may make up as much as 15 percent of the alloy by mass. Added elements include iron, copper, magnesium, silicon, and zinc.
